Most men and women involved in the Lasallian world know and or recognize the names of Provincials, College Presidents, or the leading Principals of San Miguel Schools and leading high schools. But few are aware of what Creagh, Dundin, Carney, Prevost, Otto, Bucci, Lamb, Buccina, Brady and Henderson among many others have in common. They are all accomplished artists who shared their world with hundreds of Brothers and Lasallian Volunteers at an historic month long exhibit at the La Salle University Art Gallery in Philadelphia beginning July 28, 2008. The show, which attracted the largest crowd ever at the Gallery on opening night, coincided with the annual Orientation for the 08-09 Lasallian Volunteers and the special retreat for all of the Brothers of the Northeast. It was the first show of its kind ever organized in the USA, and it was a huge success! Water color, oil, wood, tapestry, needle point, bronze, photo, and even egg tempora on wood panels were used creatively by these talented men and women of the Lasallian world.
The show was the brain child of the young men and women who serve across the USA as Lasallian Volunteers. Beyond the art exhibit, these young dedicated Lasallians were showing their appreciation to the larger Brothers Community for opening their homes and hearts to young men and women who long to share the Lasallian mission. They pointed out on the opening night of the exhibit, attended by hundreds, that their own sense of vocation has been nurtured by their association with Brothers. These insights led many in the audience to make the connection between the art show and the Lasallian Family; the Spirit emerges from these artists in many different forms and expressions for the good of all and the Spirit emerges from within the family via young men and women for the good of youth and their families everywhere.
