ABOUT JOLLEEN

Jolleen is completing her third year as a Lasallian Volunteer in Chicago, IL, as the 7th and 8th grade Language Arts teacher at the San Miguel Schools of Chicago, Gary Comer Campus.

While at San Miguel, Jolleen started the Poetry Slam Club, coordinated community outreach events such as the Cross City Classic, is a core member of the Saturday School staff, developed the 7th grade Language Arts Curriculum, coached the girl’s basketball team, and created faith-based programs for the academic and greater San Miguel Chicago communities as their Lasallian Animator.

Living in a shared community for three years at the Harvey House Community in Oak Park, Jolleen experienced a diverse community life with the Brothers, Lasallian Partners and other Volunteers. Over her three LV years, Jolleen has also taken the initiative to help the Lasallian Volunteer program. She organized prayers for retreats, coordinated airport pick-ups for volunteers flying to and from Chicago for Debriefing Retreats for the past two years, and researched local ropes course venues and some presenters for better informed choices at Orientation 2007.

A graduate of Siena College, Jolleen served as a Residential Assistant for 2 years and was awarded the 2003-2004 Residential Assistant of The Year Award, and the Editor-in –Chief of the Siena College Newspaper. Jolleen worked closely with the staff of the Student Activities office and the student body. She gained the respect of her peers and the Siena community through her involvement in numerous campus activities and volunteer projects.

When asked about what motivated her to apply for the position and why she wishes to serve on the LV staff, Jolleen responded:
“I think the Program and the people the Program serves are amazing. The LV Program has always been a really good fit for me and I want to help others find that fit.”

Jolleen officially begins her new position on July 9 and meets the new Volunteers at Orientation at Lewis University from July 28 – August 6.

Jolleen will be based at Christian Brothers Conference in Washington, DC.
