Lasallian Volunteers has signed our name in order to save service! If you are a site director, CEO, Executive Director, or head of an organization, please consider signing on behalf of your organization. If you work for an organization that support national community service, please share this opportunity with your organization’s leadership.
On September 29, the House released a bill that would eliminate the Corporation for National and Community Service and the AmeriCorps program. In response, the Save Service Coalition is spearheading a letter to appropriators to Save Service. Thousands of local agencies depend on national service and the human capital that it provides to meet increased demand in communities across the country.
This is the time to show Congress that the Corporation and its programs have deep support in those communities. Abolishing the Corporation will:
- Withdraw vital support from 70,000 nonprofit organizations that rely on national service members to fill the gap between the services that state and local governments are able to provide and what citizens require.
- Remove nearly $1 billion in private, philanthropic dollars leveraged by organizations across the country.
- Lead to the elimination of more than 80,000 AmeriCorps positions nationwide, when over 500,000 applied for those slots last year.
Signing this letter makes that case to Congress and lets Members know what the impact is in their Districts.
